Enforcers, Set It Off, Hummers Win 2012-13 BOSSL Openers

Set It Off ace Julio Carmona scattered pitched his team to a victory over the Seaborne Stealers.The Colianni Enforcers, Set It Off and the National Guard Hummers got off to winning starts as the Bob Owens Slow-pitch Softball League kicked off its 2012-13 season with three games at the D.C. Canegata ballpark.

The Enforcers sunk the Anchor Dive Pirates, 17-8; Set It Off edged the Seaborne Stealers 8-6; and the Hummers outlasted the Ben Ray Lumberjacks, 9-5.

Enforcers 17, Pirates 8

The Colianni Enforcers only outhit the Anchor Dive Pirates by one, at 15-14, but it was the timeliness of the winners’ hits that proved to be the difference. It was the Enforcers with 17 runs on 15 hits and one error, while the Pirates finished with eight runs on 14 hits and one error.

Bob Davis got the win on the hill for the Enforcers, while Edwin Sankitts got the loss.

Top batters for the winners were Clayron Pollock (3 for 4 with two RBIs) and Jeff Elvins (3 for 4 with one RBI). For the Pirates Matt McHenry was 2 for 2 with two homeruns and two RBIs, and Tafari Carter was 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs.

Set It Off 8, Stealers 6

Set It Off ace Julio Carmona scattered seven hits in pitching his team to an 8-6 victory over a shorthanded Seaborne Stealers squad. The winners finished with eight runs on 14 hits and two errors, while the Stealers had six runs on seven hits and two errors.

Top batters for Set It Off were Fernando Quesada (3 for 3 with two homeruns and two RBIs) and Luis Alexander (2 for 3 with a homerun and two RBIs). For the Stealers, Guido Schjang was 1 for 2 with a homerun and one RBI. Samuel Ramos took the loss on the hill for the Stealers.

Hummers 9, Lumberjacks 5

A powerful looking National Guards Hummers team took the field against the Lumberjacks in Tuesday’s nightcap, and although they outhit 13 to 12, they won the game 9-5. It was the Hummers with nine runs on 12 hits and three errors while the Lumberjacks finished with five runs on 13 hits and three errors.

Roman Cruz got the win on the hill for the Hummers, while Ulric Benjamin took the loss.

Top batters for the winners were Ovidio Oquino (2 for 4 with two homeruns and three RBIs), Mario Christian (2 for 3 with a homerun and one RBI), and Luis Frontal was 2 for 3 with a homerun and two RBIs.
