St. Croix Man Arrested, Charged 2 Hours After Robbery

Suhmeid J. Morris, 29, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Friday on first-degree robbery charges just two hours after he allegedly shot and robbed a person in Estate Calquhoun, the V.I. Police Department indicated in a statement Friday.Suhmeid Morris

Police Department spokesman Melody Rames said he may face additional charges for the alleged shooting.

According to the Police Department press release, police on were called to investigate an attempted robbery with an injured victim at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. When police arrived at the scene they encountered the victim, who is in his late 20s to early 30s, being treated by emergency medical technicians.

The victim told police that he caught a ride from the suspect, who later demanded the victims’ ring. When the victim refused, the suspect shot at him several times striking him at least once in his hip area. He was taken by ambulance to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

Police processed the crime scene, collected evidence, and interviewed people in the area.

Morris was placed on $75,000 bail, which he was unable to post. He was remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action.
