Police Arrest Second Suspect in January Kean Shootout

A second suspect has been arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in connection with a Jan. 28 shootout on the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School campus. The suspect is a 17-year-old minor who was arrested shortly after noon Tuesday. Police previously arrested on Feb. 4 Alex A. Harris, 21, and charged him with first degree reckless endangerment and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police say the minor and Harris were involved in a shootout in the parking lot near the gym and basketball court. There was a basketball tournament going on at the school at the time.

Police said there were more than 100 students and spectators in the area at the time but that no one was injured. At least three parked vehicles were damaged by gunfire.

The minor was released into the custody of his guardian pending his appearance in juvenile court, according to a statement from the V.I. Police Department. Harris’ bail was set at $100,000.
