DOL Provides Update on Printing Delay of Unemployment Checks

The V.I. Department of Labor continues to address the in-house technical issues regarding the printing and issuance of Unemployment Insurance (UI) checks. The department’s UI staff will be working over the Easter weekend to manually process over 500 checks for Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC), regular Unemployment Insurance, and interstate certified claimants. The checks will be prepared and mailed out to claimants on Tuesday, April 10, according to a press release issued on Thursday by the V.I. Department of Labor.
Labor Commissioner Albert Bryan Jr. said, "The department has experienced hardware failures and sought local and off-island technical assistance. Currently, system diagnostics are being conducted to identify the problem."
As the department continues to address this issue, the public is encouraged to hold calls regarding the processing of UI checks so that staff may focus on processing the checks as expeditiously as possible and in time for Tuesday’s scheduled disbursement. The department will continue providing updates to the public as information becomes available.
