Suspicious Package Turns Out to Be Toy

After investigating a suspicious package found Tuesday at the Ron de Lugo Federal Building on St. Thomas, police discovered it contained a child’s computer toy.

“It was one of those computers that teach reading,” said Police Department spokesman Melody Rames.

Rames said the package was delivered to the building’s entrance. She said the label seemed suspicious to the person checking in the mail so the police were called at 12:30 p.m. The building was evacuated and the traffic restricted.

The package was removed by the Police Department Bomb Detection Unit and sent to be x-rayed.

“Wires were observed at that time,” Rames said

Police rerouted traffic on Veterans Drive for several hours.
