Property owners can still take advantage of the final days to receive early payment discounts for their 2009 property bills. Property owners who pay their bill by Friday, March 30, can receive a 2.5 percent discount for them. Property owners are also encouraged to pay their bill by May 30, in order to avoid late payment fees, according to a press release from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
Lt. Gov. Gregory Francis appreciates the patience of the property owners who may have encountered lines at the Tax Collectors Office locations as they sought to make their payments. “I’d like to thank all of the property owners who have made their 2009 payments for their patience if they dealt with long lines at any of our offices,” he stated. “Additional staff has been hired to facilitate the payment process at our various offices, to include our four locations on St. Croix.” He reminds property owners that they can avoid lines by making their payment by mail and enclosing a self-addressed stamped envelope to have their payment receipt returned.
Francis also thanks the hard-working staff of the Division of Real Property for their outstanding collection efforts. “Our staff has worked around the clock to process the volume of payments that have been made, not only by persons paying their 2009 taxes but their delinquent taxes as well,” he said. “I appreciate their continued effort and thank them for their service to our customers and government.”
Property taxes can be paid at the Tax Collector’s Office at the following locations: Islandia Building on St. John; Builders Emporium on St. Thomas; and at Government House and 1131 King Street in Christiansted or Department of Finance Building in Sunny Isles or Lagoon Street Commercial Building No. 1 in Frederiksted on St.
