The V.I. Waste Management Authority advises St. Croix residents that the authority will begin a sewer line repair project along the Melvin Evans Highway. The construction work is expected to commence April 17 and be completed by Sept. 30.This project will include the slip lining of the sewer line that runs from the intersection of the Melvin Evans Highway and Container Port Road to the Anguilla Wastewater Treatment Plant, traversing through the St. Croix Renaissance Group’s property, according to a press release issued Friday by VIWMA. The process of lining the existing sewer line with a permeable material allows for trenchless repairs to them. This technology allows for limited digging and impact to the infrastructure at significant time and cost savings. Lining of the sewer line also restores the structural integrity of the pipe, reduces root intrusion and improves flow capacity.
The preliminary work began last week with the opening all of the manholes along the project route to evaluation their condition. This action allowed for fumes to escape from the lines causing an odor along the highway. The authority has increased the frequency of odor control from the Fig Tree Pump Station and will continue to perform odor control practices for the duration of the project.
O’Reilly Plumbing & Construction was awarded a contract to line approximately 3,600 linear feet of sewer line and repair 40 manholes.
