The Cartel outslugged Softball Inc, 26-16, Tuesday night in Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball Action at the D.C. Canegata ballpark, while the Seaborne Stealers outlasted the Enforcers, 15-11.
The Stealers had one of their worst nights defensively but were still able to pull out the victory against a game Enforcers squad in Tuesday night’s opening contest.
The Cartel unleashed a 31-hit offensive onslaught, hammering Softball Inc. into submission. The once mighty Cartel, who sits in the bottom third of league standings, finished with 26 runs on 31 hits and one error.
Softball Inc had 16 runs on 20 hits and four errors.
Ian Lewis got the win on the hill for the Cartel. Top batters were Anton Cannonier (3 for 3 with three homeruns and eight RBIs), Wayne Scotland (3 for 4 with five RBIs), Daren Lewis (4 for 4 with a homerun and two RBIs), and Lebeus Gittens (4 for 5 with a homerun and two RBIs).
Fred Jackson took the loss on the mound for Softball Inc. Top batters were Jose Manuel (3 for 4 with two homeruns and four RBIs), Chuck Duncan (2 for 3 with two homeruns and five RBIs), and Gabriel Jagrup (4 for 4 with two RBIs).
In game two the Enforcers, one of the league’s lower echelon teams, put a scare in the mighty Seaborne Stealers, but came up just short in the end losing, 15-11.
The Stealers, arguably one of the league’s best defensive teams, had a difficult game on Tuesday. Six of the 11 Enforcers runs were direct result of six Stealers errors.
It was the Stealers’ 15 runs on 19 hits that kept them ahead. The winning pitcher was Sam Ramos. Top Stealers batters were Steve Simmonds (2 for 4 with two homeruns and four RBIs), Dave and Guido Schjang (2 for 3 with a homerun and three RBIs), and Freddie Pimentel (1 for 2 with a homerun and three RBIs).
The Enforcers finished with 11 runs on 20 hits and six errors. Steve Nisky took the loss on the mound.
