The Pirates and JR Fire were Tuesday night’s winners in Elrod Hendricks West Little League games played simultaneously at Emile Griffith and Joseph Aubain ballparks. The Pirates tempered the Storm, 5-4, at Griffith, and JR Fire burned the Rebels, 12-8, at Aubain.
Pirates 5, Storm 4
In the contest played at the Emile Griffith field, the Pirates were able to hold off the Storm, 5-4, in a close contest. It was the Pirates with five runs on two hits and one error, while the Storm, who outhit the Pirates 4-2, finished with four runs on four hits and two costly errors.
The winning pitcher was AlaAli Stevens, and Davean Plummer got the loss.
Top batter for the contest was Najee Harris, 2 for 2.
JR Fire 12, Rebels 8
JR Fire outlasted the Rebels, 12-8, at Aubain ballpark with some timely hitting and one less-costly error.
Again the losing team outhit the winners but could not get that big hit when it mattered.
It was JR Fire with 12 runs on six hits and three errors, while the Rebels finished with eight runs on seven hits while committing four errors.
The winning pitcher was Kaloni Thomas, and Dwayne Lynch got the loss.
Top batters for the winners were Thomas and Shakhoy Smith; both were 2 for 3 at the plate. For the Rebels, William Larsen was 2 for 2 and Dennis Senelis was 2 for 3.
