Love is in the air again on Tuesday at the 10th annual Celebration of Love Valentine’s Day Vow Renewal ceremony at Trunk Bay. It begins at 5 p.m.
“It’s a way for couples to have a meaningful Valentine’s Day,” said Anne Marie Porter, who organizes the event with Kathy Dove.
The celebration starts with Albion Sewer playing “Here Comes the Bride” on steel pans in the Trunk Bay parking lot. Flautist Michael Banzhaf will greet couples as they head down the sidewalk to the beach.
Porter is a non-denominational minister and will perform the ceremony. She said someone will sing and Rich Greengold will play his saxophone on the beach.
“Every couple receives a long-stemmed rose and marriage vow renewal certificate,” Porter said.
More than 800 couples have renewed their vows at the annual Celebration of Love. Porter said some participants had been married more than 60 years and others had just been married on the morning of the event.
“There are a couple of couples that come every year and do it.”
Porter said she and Dove created the celebration to honor couples and give them the opportunity to honor each other.
Many of the couples are local, but many more from off-island and time their vacation to coincide with the celebration, she said.
