The V.I. Council on the Arts Gallery will feature oils and paintings by local batik artist Doreen Walsh. The exhibit will hold an opening from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the Francois Complex on Norre Gade. Accompanying the VICA show, titled "Share Delights," will be music by Alana Davis of Sweet Strings, and a Boresha coffee tasting.
This will be Walsh’s first one-woman show since she resumed exhibiting this year at the Caribbean Colour 2011 show. She is known for bringing innovative ideas to batik, the ancient Indonesian technique of applying melted wax to fabric before dyeing. She often works in a series of themes or colors, ranging from miniature abstracts to large-scale triptychs.
From Oregon, Walsh moved to St. Thomas in 1989. Her credits include several awards and shows in the Virgin Islands and on the mainland.
The exhibit will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 29.
