Family Literacy Program Offered for Ten Weeks

Inter Island Parent Coalition for Change Inc. is conducting a 10-week family literacy program for parents from October to December 2011. Parents may attend either the Tuesday evening sessions from 5:30-7 p.m. or Saturday morning sessions from 10 a.m. to noon. All sessions will be held at the Jane E. Tuitt School located in Savanne.
To give a child the boost that they need to excel in school, parents need to have 21st century academic skills and know how to help their child at home. No matter the child’s grade in school, the workshops that are provided through Project ABC Family Literacy will enable parents to help their child academically. Parents participate in workshop-style trainings that focus on developing their skills, confidence and creativity, that will provide them with tools and information they can use to create a home environment that fosters literacy development and homework support for their child.
There is no cost for this program. Parents will receive a certificate of completion and a take-home supply kit.
For more information, call Belinda West-O’Neal at Inter Island Parent Coalition for Change Inc. at 774-1662 or 513-8884.
