Fun for People and Pooches at Upcoming Barktoberfest

Doggie costume contests, kids’ games and treasures from the No-Flea Boutique will all be on tap at Barktoberfest on Sunday, Oct. 23. The Humane Society of St. Thomas’ annual fall party will be from noon until 5 p.m. at the Humane Care Campus, which is located off Weymouth Rhymer Highway across from Cost-U-Less. There’s no admission charge for the party, and the Society’s No-Flea Boutique – a premier secondhand store loved by bargain hunters – will be open for the first time in the new location.
Pups can compete in five contests: Best Costume, Best Kisser, Best Talent, Best Look-Alike (owner and pet) and Best Temptation Tower. Kids will have their own Best Animal Costume competition in three age categories: 6 years and under, 7 to 12 and 13 to 17.
Each child will receive two tickets for activities that include the Trick or Treat Village, pumpkin decorating, scarecrow construction, face painting, sand art and more. Extra activity tickets will be only $1 each.
The whole family will love the Adoptable Pet Parade and the V.I. Police Department K9 officer demonstration. Homemade food, delicious desserts and drinks donated by the West Indies Corporation will be for sale, with all proceeds benefiting the island’s homeless pets. Dogs can get their nails clipped by Humane Society Board member Karen Congero of Style A Dog, and all proceeds will benefit the Society. There will be pet-product vendors, a raffle and pools in which your pooches can cool off.
To be an event sponsor, have a non-food vending table or volunteer, please contact Humane Society of St. Thomas Barktoberfest Chairman Joe Aubain at 998-1421.
