WAPA Technicians Working to Restore Water Production

The Water and Power Authority had implemented a water conservation schedule last week to address an existing water shortage due to mechanical problems with the equipment used to produce water. Authority personnel were working on repairs to unit 11 and boiler until 21 when Tropical Storm Irene made her pass through the territory and repairs had to be put on hold.
A release from WAPA Tuesday afternoon said technicians are back working to make the necessary repairs to get water flowing to St. Thomas water customers again
“Water technicians anticipate that water pumping can resume by tonight, after which the system will be charged and pressurized,” the release said.
Kinila C. Paige, WAPA public information officer, was not sure exactly when water pressure to all areas would be restored, but said it was hoped by tonight or tomorrow.
