EAST Promotes Recycling at Chili Cook-off

The Environmental Association of St. Thomas-St. John (EAST) needs help with its recycling can drive and tent activities that will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, at Brewers Bay for the 27th Annual Chili Cook-off. The public’s help will reduce the amount of cans into the waste stream and promote recycling on the islands. So far this year, with the help of its members, EAST has collected about 1,000 pounds of aluminum cans. This past year from UVI, Magens Bay to Red Hook and points between, EAST has been collecting empty aluminum cans. Every can that it collects goes towards its purchasing of more collection bins for other organizations or clubs.
Come on down and enjoy the chili fundraising event and stop by EAST’s tent to pick up a copy of its terms and conditions to receive a free recycling bin for an organization you belong to. EAST needs your help to educate others about the importance of recycling and making sure to place cans in the correct bins. The association thanks Caribbean Packaging and Scott Martin for their assistance with this effort. For more information, call 775-6048 or visit www.eastvi.org
