Emanuel Memorial Service Planned for Monday

Former UVI Professor Gene Emanuel will be remembered at a memorial service to be held Monday at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on St. Thomas. The ceremony is set to begin at 11 a.m.

Emanuel, a well-known pan Africanist with a passion for Afro-Caribbean history and culture died July 28.

A funeral service and burial will take place Wednesday on his home island of St. Croix. The viewing will be held at the Lord God of Sabaoth Church in Christiansted at 9 a.m. with the service following at 10 a.m.

The university has a Facebook page to accept tributes.

The university is also setting up a Gene Emanuel scholarship fund. Donations will be accepted at the Monday memorial service or can be sent to the UVI Office of Institutional Advancement at 2 John Brewers Bay, St. Thomas, 00802.

Checks should be made payable to UVI with Gene Emanuel Scholarship Fund in the memo section of the check.
