Registration Now Open for Annual Beach-to-Beach Power Swim

The Friends of Virgin Islands National Park has opened registration for the 8th annual Beach-to-Beach Power Swim, which will be held on May 29, the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.
The Beach-to-Beach Power Swim will be swum as four simultaneous events, all starting at Maho Bay:
  • Short course (solo) from Maho Beach to Cinnamon Beach (1 mile)
  • Intermediate course(solo) from Maho Beach to Trunk Beach (2 ¼ miles)
  • Long course (solo) from Maho Beach to Hawksnest Beach (3 ½ miles)
  • Long course (three-person relay teams) from Maho Beach to Hawksnest Beach. The relay team transition points will be at Cinnamon Beach and Trunk Beach.
To make the event as accessible as possible to swimmers of all levels, swimmers may compete using snorkels, fins, and/or exposure suits in a separate category of “assisted” swimmers.
Registration fees are as follows:
Advance/early registration (through May 6) is $30 for adults and $15 for youth (17 years and younger)
General registration (May 7-27) is $40 for adults and $15 for youth
Late registrations (May 28 at the pre-race meeting only) is $50 for adults and $25 for youth
There will be no registration on the day of the event.
Visit www.friendsvinp.org/swim for complete information on this event and to register online.
Registration is also possible by phone by calling 779-4940 or in person at the following locations on the three islands
  • St. John at The Friends of the Park in Mongoose Junction or Connections Cruz Bay or Coral Bay
  • St. Thomas at Caribbean Surf Co. in Havensight, Red Hook or Downtown
  • St. Croix at SCUBA in Christiansted
Proceeds from this event support Virgin Islands National Park’s Learn to Swim program and other projects in support of the park. Help to raise more money by fundraising with Friends of the V.I. National Park through “Race for a Reason,” a participant fundraising challenge. Details, and links to fundraising pages, can be found at http://www.friendsvinp.org/swim/11info.htm.
This is a great community event and lots of fun, even if you are not swimming. Spectators can enjoy watching the race from Maho, Cinnamon, Trunk and Hawksnest beaches and there is a ‘Beach Party and Awards Ceremony’ open to the general public at nearby Oppenheimer Beach. The event needs lots of volunteers as safety kayakers, on the beaches and at the party.
Practice swims will be scheduled for the weeks preceding the event and the schedule will be announced soon.
