Delta M. Jackson Dorsch died on Friday, Jan. 28, at Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital. Mrs. Dorsch was the beloved matriarch of her family and a renowned educator, legendary storyteller, author and tradition-bearer. She greatly loved the Virgin Islands and was revered by many as a very precious cultural icon.
She is survived by her nieces and nephew: Claire L. Roker, Juanita M. Gatison, Gwendolyn Carr, Sylvia Berrell and Eugene Reilly; great nieces and nephews: Laura Roker, Chyrise Eleonora (Eduardo), Debra Henry, Donna Henry, Deirdre Henry, Karen Carter, Cynthia Johnson, Angela Ruddell, Kenneth Carr, Herman Carr, Allan Berrell, Denis Berrell, Donald Berrell, William Berrell, Wade Brown and Keith Reilly; great-great nieces and nephews: Chrystina Celestin, Ezra, Shawna Brady, Nolene Watley, Briana and Makeda Eleonora, Tya Dalson, Jasmine Coleman, Jonathan and Denisha Harrison, Jason Henry and Keion Reilly; and great-great-great nieces and nephews: Aniya, Shayne and Shawn Celestin, Aundre and Alayah Watley, Dashaun Thomas and Janai Coleman.
She is also survived by adopted sons and daughters: Alexander Moorhead Jr., Bradley Christian, Alvin Milligan, Calvin and Wilma Nisbett, Delores Wallace, Gwendolyn Fludd, ingrid Bough and Rochelle Gomez; and godchildren: Jerilyn Bryan, Hans Ovesen, Lecia Bryan, Daja Brooks, Kheya James, Dynelle Soto, Lloyd Clarke, Cathy Arnold, Asta and Astria Christian, Marion O’Reilly, Maxine Hart, Kiza Tutein, Lena, Virginia and Vanessa Moorhead, Michael and Michelle Schuster, Paulette Harris, Magda and Miguel Santos, Aretha Delta Ventura, Robert Payne Jr. and Sonja Rivera Rembert.

The life of Delta M. Jackson Dorsch will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 11, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Frederiksted. A viewing and tributes will begin at 9 a.m. and service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Frederiksted Cemetery.
