Parent University classes for the 2010-2011 school year will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and run through Wednesday, March 2. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. at the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center. Free transportation and child care services are available, as well as homework assistance, tutoring and the serving of a hot meal, according to a press release from St. Croix Superintendent Gary Molloy.
“Parent University is an environment where parents can obtain information about issues affecting them, exchange ideas with parenting experts and other parents, providing a community network and support system,” said Janet Brow, district director for School Community Relations. “There are no tests or grades and the environment is non-threatening and extremely engaging.”
In addition to classes, Parent University Counseling Center offers parents one-on-one dialogue or family counseling; and the featured Superintendent’s Corner, where District leadership is available for conversation barring need for formal appointments. Classes will also be conducted in Spanish to accommodate Hispanic parents.
Interested persons can obtain applications at all district schools, the Department of Education headquarters at 2133 Hospital Street, Traxco, the Office of Paternity and Child Support, or at any St. Croix fire station.
