DHPR and Angels Scouts Conduct Baseball Camps for Youth

The Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation advises the general public that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California, in conjunction with DHPR, will be conducting Angels Youth Baseball Camps and holding baseball tryout camps on St. Thomas and St. Croix on Jan. 4 and 6, respectively. “The baseball camps will focus on the fundamentals of hitting, fielding and throwing mechanics in order to provide youngsters with the basic techniques that will help them develop and improve their baseball skills,” Commissioner St. Claire Williams said.
He further noted that two Angels baseball free agent scouts will participate, Ron Marigny and Kevin Ham, who will supervise and provide instructions at the camps for children ages 8-12. They will also conduct tryouts for baseball players, ages 13 and up. The information on the camps/tryout is as follows:
St. Thomas
Wednesday, Jan. 4: Instructional Camp (ages 8-12) at Emile Griffith Ball Park at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 4: Invite Pro/Tryout (ages 13 and up) at Lionel Roberts Stadium at 5 p.m.
St. Croix
Thursday, Jan. 6: Instructional Camp (ages 8-12) at D. C. Canegata Softball field at 10 a.m.
Thursday, Jan. 6: Invite Pro/Tryout (ages 13 and up) at D. C. Canegata Baseball Stadium at 5 p.m.
Commissioner Williams emphasized that the camps are free to all children between the ages of 8-12 but noted that in order for any child to participate, a liability waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian. “Youngsters who wish to participate should bring their own baseball cap, glove and cleats, and I encourage everyone, including coaches, to come out and take advantage of this opportunity being provided by the Los Angeles Angels,” he said.
For more information on the baseball camps, contact the DHPR on St. Thomas at 774-0255 or on St. Croix at 773-0160.
