Suspect Arrested for First-Degree Rape

Emmett Bramble Jr., a 26-year-old resident of Estate Strawberry, was arrested Thursday by V.I.P.D. detectives on St. Croix and charged with rape and robbery in connection with an incident that occurred in September.

According to police, a 26-year-old woman reported that she had received a ride after work from a man she had seen before, but whose name she didn’t know. She told officers he had forcibly had sex with her and allegedly stuck her several times with a knife, causing puncture wounds.

Police continued to investigate the case and attempt to identify the suspect.

On Dec. 4 the victim saw the suspect again at her place of employment and confronted him. According to the victim the suspect pointed a gun at her and she hit him in the head with a bottle. The suspect punched her several times with his fists and then left the area, the police said.

Investigation Bureau detectives accompanied the victim to locate the suspect who was identified as Bramble. Police requested an arrest warrant and received one Tuesday. Police arrested Bramble at his home in Estate Strawberry at about 5 a.m. Thursday.

Bramble is charged him with first-degree rape, first-degree robbery, third-degree assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon during a crime of violence and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence.

He was held on a $100,000 bail and remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action.
