All Saints Wins Fifth JV Flag Game in a Row

All Saints continued its winning ways Friday, improving to 5-0 on the junior varsity flag football season after a 24-12 victory over Julius Sprauve School.

All Saints got on the board first after Tavis Richardson took a handoff and went 35 yards for a score, putting the Vikings up 6-0. On Sprauve’s possession, the team marched the ball down to the All Saints side of the field, but penalties caused them to lose yards and they had to give the ball up on downs.

The score was still 6-0 when All Saints ran a quarterback keeper to the right and just made it past the pile-on for another six. The extra point was once again no good, so All Saints now had a 12-0 lead.

In the second half, Sprauve had the ball moving down the field when its quarterback dropped back and threw a pass that Richardson picked off and returned more than 50 yards for another score. The two point conversion was no good, and the score was 18-0 in favor of the Vikings.

Sprauve scored twice late in the game, but the Vikings defense helped clinch the win with another late pick.

“We just wanted to come out and do exactly what we’ve been practicing all season by coming up with some big plays and some good runs, and that’s exactly what we did,” Vikings coach Derek Gabriel said after the game. “We have one more game before we can accomplish championship goals, so we’re going to stay focused and I’m looking forward to some more big things from these guys.”
