Expo Promotes ‘Learning Compassion for Cruzan Critters’

Learning Networks Foundation (LNF) is partnering with the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center to present the first annual Animal Care Exposition (A.C.E.) from 9 am. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Market Building on the Department of Agriculture grounds. Youth from public and private St. Croix schools will demonstrate that they know what it takes to treat animals humanely. Contestants from K-8th grade will display research done about animals from turtles to horses. Prizes will be awarded in each of three divisions.
Learning to care for animals can teach children respect for others and for the environment. The purpose of A.C.E. is to encourage youth to research topics that relate to animals living on or around St. Croix. Projects will be judged on the quality of the research as well as presentation. In addition, parents are encouraged to be involved and supportive of their child’s participation and to attend the expo with them. The parenting program, Call to Action, will distribute T-shirts to eligible parents who attend with their children.
For over 15 years, LNF has provided educational programming on St. Croix and has forged partnerships with other island organizations, including the Animal Welfare Center (AWC), the Boys and Girls Clubs, World Ocean School and many of the island’s public schools. It has grown to be a leader on St. Croix in facilitating youth educational programming.
A.C.E. is sponsored by LNF and the AWC with support from Call To Action and the Paternity and Child Support Division, The Buccaneer, Mitchel Larsen Studios and the V.I. Department of Agriculture. Food, music and entertainment will be available to make the day fun for the whole family.
Schools or individuals who want to participate must submit their applications before Oct 29.
