West End resident Jane Higgins has a number of questions about the Bordeaux Police and Fire Station, including the number of police officers assigned to the station, their duty hours, whether an ambulance is assigned to the station, and the station’s direct number.
According to information obtained by the Source, the "Bordeaux" station (formally known as the Bordeaux/Fortuna Multi-Purpose Center) has two police officers and five firemen assigned to the station. The fire service is staffed 24 hours.
However, police personnel were unable to confirm the hours of police assigned to the station for "security reasons."
There is presently no ambulance assigned to the station.
The phone at the Bordeaux/Fortuna Multi-Purpose Center is 776-2421.
A Fire Service officer on duty Monday said the police maintain a mobile unit in a nearby location. He said if the firemen need the police, they call 911, and the police call them back.
Until Fire Service personnel answered the question, it took four calls to determine there is no ambulance assigned to the station at this time.
The EMT who answered the call at Schneider Regional Medical Center referred the call to his supervisor, who referred the call the Department of Health attorney, who, with apologies, referred the call to the DOH commissioner.
