St. Thomas Teen Killed by Gunfire

A 19-year-old man died at about 6:40 p.m. Thursday in a shooting that took place in the Thomasville housing community, according to police.

St. Thomas officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired. When police arrived at the scene they found the unresponsive victim on the steps of an apartment building. Emergency medical technicians on the scene said the victim had no vital signs.

Police have not released the name of the victim pending the notification of next of kin and are urging anyone who has information concerning this homicide to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 715-5522, 7149834, the Major Crime Bureau at 715-5545 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.

This was the 28th homicide on St. Thomas since the first of the year, the 51st in the territory in that time. According to police, more than 67 percent of the territory’s 2010 homicides have been cleared by arrest.
