Mold Forces Closure of WAPA's St. John Office

Over the past six weeks, mold infestations and other "environmental issues" have affected the V.I. Water and Power Authority’s St. John office, forcing a relocation to The Marketplace in Cruz Bay, officials explained Thursday.
"We have been having environmental issues and have had to move out of the building two times," Norris Griffin, WAPA’s Corporate Services Director, said during a board meeting on St. Thomas Thursday.
Griffin said the owners of the building did a mold and particle test, which returned some high mold counts. The office was cleaned up and vents were replaced, but conditions returned a week later, prompting complaints from both employees and customers, he added.
WAPA has temporarily relocated while more tests are conducted. A final report is expected back on Monday or Tuesday of next week, Griffin said.
