Recalls of Egg Noodles and Wonton Skins Announced

Chicago-based Good Taste Noodle is recalling its “egg noodles and wonton skins” labeled with a production date from June 19 to Aug. 19, 2010, because of potential salmonella contamination, according to a press release from the V.I. Department of Health. The product “may contain eggs which have been recalled by the manufacturer due to the potential contamination with salmonella,” according to a statement released by the company through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Salmonella symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. No illness has been reported to date in connection with using the egg noodles and wonton skins, according to the FDA.
Residents may contact the Good Taste Noodle Company at (312) 842 8920.
The recall of these products follows last month’s nationwide recall of over 500 million shell eggs sold under many different brand names from Iowa-based manufacturers, Wright Country Egg and Hillandale Farms. The FDA said that shell eggs from Wright County Egg, which initially recalled 308 million eggs, were sold to distributors and wholesalers in 22 states and Mexico, which were later distributed further throughout the country under many different brand names. Shell eggs from Hillandale Farms went to grocery stores, distributors and wholesalers in 14 states, which also distributed the shell eggs further throughout the country under different brands.
The V.I. Health Department will update consumers once the recall is over. Meanwhile the FDA continues its investigation of what the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said represents the largest salmonella outbreak since the start of outbreak surveillance in the early 1970s.
Consumers can determine what eggs are affected in the recall by looking for dates and codes that are stamped on the packaging. The plant number begins with the letter P, followed by a number (P-1946). The date follows the plant number. For a complete listing of the recalled eggs, visit www.fda.gov.
