Police Make Second Arrest in Connection With Tuesday Murder

A second suspect has been arrested on St. Croix in connection with Tuesday’s murder of an Estate Princess man.
Police on Wednesday identified the victim of Tuesday’s homicide as 39-year-old Joel Prime, also known as “Scooby.”
The second suspect, Michael Rodriguez, aka Mikey, was arrested at about 9:10 p.m. Tuesday in the Estate La Grange area. St. Croix Police Chief Oakland Benta credited the community for coming forward with information that led to this arrest. Rodriguez, 33, lives in Estate Williams Delight.
At about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, the day of the homicide, police arrested 30-year-old Hector Luis Mercardo, aka Jesus Rivera Carmona, and charged him with first-degree murder in the homicide.
According to police, 911 dispatchers received a call of a possible injured person lying on the sidewalk in the vicinity of the United Shopping Plaza in Christiansted.
Emergency Medical Technicians arrived at the scene and saw at least one wound to the top of the man’s head but could not find any signs of life.
Both Mercardo and Rodriguez are being held on $1 million dollars bail.
