Bail Set at $1M for Suspect in February Murder

Jim D. WallaceSt. Croix police Thursday arrested 25-year-old Jim D. Wallace in connection with the Feb. 19 shooting death of Orlando Clarke behind the Nu Way Service Station in Estate Prosperity, St. Croix.

Detectives of the Major Crime and Criminal Investigation Bureaus served the warrant at about 6 p.m. at Wallace’s residence in Estate Williams Delight. He is charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $1 million bail.

In February, police responded to a call of shots fired at 8:22 p.m. They found Clarke, age 20, behind the station. Clarke was also a resident of Williams Delight. An ambulance crew dispatched to the scene found no signs of life.

While executing the search warrant Thursday, police also arrested 30-year-old Esdel Hansen Jr., who was at the Williams Delight residence. Hansen was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Edsel Hansen Jr.

He was arrested and held on a $10,000 bail. Wallace was also charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Both suspects were remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Correctional Facility pending their advice of rights hearing.
