Coast Guard Academy Seeks Class of 2010 Graduating High School Seniors

Calling all senior high school students in the U.S. Virgin Islands: The U.S. Coast Guard Academy (CGA) is looking for talented students who wish to receive full scholarship opportunity, serve their country honorably and protect our shores. Key dates and deadlines during the application process:

Dec. 12: Last eligible testing date for the ACT exam
By Dec. 24: Early Action decisions received by applicants
Jan. 23: Last eligible testing date for the SAT Reasoning exam
Feb. 1: Deadline to submit all application materials for admissions review
April 15: Deadline for completing DoDMERB medical examination
By April 15: Regular admissions decisions received by applicants
May 1: Deadline to accept or decline scholarship offers
June 1: Deadline for receiving DoDMERB medical qualification or CGA waiver
In addition, junior high school students who are interested in attending the CGA can enroll in the Academy’s 2010 Summer AIM (Academy Introductory Mission). This is a one-week experience that gives prospective applicants a first-hand and hands-on look at Academy life. The application for AIM 2009 will be posted in January with an application deadline of April 1, 2010. The Academy has a dedicated admissions officer and several outreach partners in the Virgin Islands that are available to discuss Academy programs, Academy introduction and mission, Admission requirements, and other areas of interest. See www.cga.edu. Admission requirements include: U.S. citizenship, age 17-22, unmarried with no dependents, high school graduate, and attributes to excel. Since 2005, the Coast Guard Academy has had a graduate from the Virgin Islands, which says something about its dedication for Diversity recruiting. Cadets 1C Scott Ledee, 2C Jevon James, 3C Ronaqua Russell and Rebecca Seifer, 4C Rian Bareuther, and Dale Carty II are all Virgin Islanders pursuing an engineering degree and an opportunity to lead in one of the world’s best maritime services.
Located in New London, Connecticut, the Coast Guard Academy offers an integrated life experience, which emphasizes leadership, character, academics and physical fitness in order to graduate the very best Coast Guard officers. Graduates go directly to positions of leadership in U.S. Coast Guard, one of the best and most admired organizations in the world. The Academy also features an impressive teacher-student ratio and picturesque waterfront campus that instills a traditional, small college feel.
