Ballet Hispanico Holds Educational Forum for V.I. Students

More than 50 middle and high school students on St. Thomas will take part in an educational forum conducted by members of the Ballet Hispanico dance company. The forum will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, in the Reichhold Center Theater. The educational forum is sponsored and coordinated by the Reichhold Center for the Arts, Virgin Islands Department of Education and the VI Council on the Arts.

Ballet Hispanico Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro will lead the forum, along with three dancers from the company. During the morning, dancers will demonstrate a series of Latin dance moves for students. They will educate students on understanding the meaning behind particular dances that will be performed at the Reichhold Center on Saturday evening. Additionally, the forum will discuss Latin American culture and how that culture is expressed through dance.
In preparation for the residency, the Education has distributed copies of a “Ballet Hispanico Educational Supplement” to students, which contains information on watching and understanding dance performances, along with important terms used in dance, and information on Latin music instruments.
The Virgin Islands Council on the Arts has provided participating students with complimentary tickets for the Ballet Hispanico performance that will be held at 8 p.m., Saturday, at the Reichhold Center.
