Crucian Promoted to Navy Lieutenant Commander

John Logan assumes the rank of lieutenant commander. With his wife, children and parents there to watch, St. Croix native Lt. John Logan was promoted to lieutenant commander at a ceremony attended by Delegate Donna Christensen Thursday morning in Washington, D.C.

Originally from Christiansted, Logan currently serves as the command chaplain at the Marine barracks in Washington, D.C. During his service he has been decorated with the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.

A veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Logan has master’s degrees in divinity and social work. He served as flotilla chaplain of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary before going on active duty in 2001, serving aboard the U.S.S. Belleau Wood and deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In January 2004, he was assigned as squadron chaplain to Marine Aircraft Group 16 and was later deployed to Al Asad, Iraq in May 2007. Earlier this year, he graduated from the U.S. Naval War College, Fleet Seminar Program, receiving a diploma from the College of Naval Command and Staff.

“Lt. Cmdr. Logan has combined his call to serve others with distinguished service as a soldier, a counselor and a minister,” said Christensen, who congratulated him in person, greeting his wife, Letricia; his children, Paul and Paulita; and his parents, John and Paula Logan.

“I am not always here when there are commissioning ceremonies, but I am proud to join our men and women in uniform and their families for days of celebration such as this,” she said. “He is one of our best, as he provides counsel to his fellows in the armed services and to civilians in need of his help. We are proud of his accomplishments.”
