Fire Takes 2-0 Lead In Softball Finals

The Fire Department took a double-header from the Department of Corrections Thursday night in the Governmental and Industrial Coed softball league at the Renholdt Jackson Sport Complex, taking a 2-0 lead in the best three of five finals. Paul Christian pitched both games for Fire as they took a commanding lead in the finals.

Fire 13, Corrections 6
In game one it was Fire with 13 runs on 11 hits and two errors, while Corrections had six runs on six hits and no errors. Max Velasquez got the loss for Corrections in the opener. Top batters for Fire were Eduardo Carino 3 for 3 with six RBIs, Arthur Canaii, 2 for 4 with four RBIs, and Gelisa James, who went 2 for 2. For Corrections, Juan Santana was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Jose Berrios was 1 for 3 with a home run and one RBI.

Fire 12, Corrections 10
Game two on Thursday was a much closer contest, but in the end it was Fire coming out on top to take the 2-0 series lead. Fire finished with 12 runs on 12 hits and four errors while Corrections finished with 10 runs on 10 hits. Paul Christian again was the winning pitcher while Jose Guerra got the lost for Corrections this time around.

Top batters for Fire were Carino, 1 for 2 with two RBIs, Marlon Williams 2 for 4 with one RBI and Troy Brown 1 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. For Corrections, Carlos Morales was 2 for 3 with a home run and one RBI, Santana went 2 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs, and David Clarke was 1 for 4 with a home run and one RBI.
