June 23, 2009 — After running an altered schedule since the weekend, St. John's two ferry companies began operating on their regular Cruz Bay, St. John, to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas schedule by midday Tuesday.
"The ferry companies met today to resolve the schedule," Public Services Commission spokesman Lorna Nichols said Tuesday.
The ferries from Cruz Bay to Charlotte Amalie are now departing at 7:15 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m., and 3:45 p.m. The ferries from Charlotte Amalie are now leaving at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.
One of the companies, Transportation Services, has boats out of commission while waiting for parts. This meant it had to rely on the other franchised ferry company, Varlack Ventures, plus other ferry companies to fill in the gaps. To accommodate the other ferry companies, times changed on the Cruz Bay to Charlotte Amalie run. One ferry was eliminated from the Charlotte Amalie to Cruz Bay schedule.
Nichols said she doesn't expect there to be any glitches in the schedule.
There were no changes in the Cruz Bay to Red Hook, St. Thomas ferry schedule.
