Juan F. Luis Hospital Injectables douse Fire

June 10, 2009 — After losing four games to start the season, the Juan F. Luis Hospital Injectables have come back to win two in a row at the D.C. Canegata ball Park with their latest victims being the Fire Department, 22-6.
It was the first time this season the Injectables fielded their full squad and they certainly looked liked the powerhouse they were once known to be, as they pounded out 22 runs on 22 hits. There was nothing Fire could do to stem the offensive onslaught that came their way.
Batting first, the Injectables got on the board right away in the top of the first inning with two runs on a two-run single off the bat of Rashawn Foster. Fire responded right away in the bottom of the inning by way of the long ball. A three-run blast by Arthur Canaii and a solo shot of the bat of Elroy “Bee Bee” Bates gave the firemen the lead at 4-3 after one inning.
The Injectables retook the lead at 5-4 in the top of the second, scoring three runs on a three-run blast by Real Sackey. Fire had no answer in their half of the inning.
The Injectables would then unleash their all-out assault over the next three innings, totally putting out any flicker of flame that may have been trying to become a blaze in the Fire dugout.
Beginning in the third, the health-care professionals really began to take care of business. They erupted for seven runs in the inning on a three-run home run by Foster, a three-run triple by Kenny Milligan and an RBI single by Raymond Cintron, and they never looked back. Meanwhile spot-starting pitcher, Dennis Brow was masterful, for the most part keeping the Fire big bats in check. They did reach him for two runs in the bottom of the third, but, with a 12-4 lead, it was obvious Brow was experimenting with pitches at the time. Fire scored their two runs on a two-run single by Raydell Robinson to trail 12-6 at the end of three completed innings.
The Injectables were back on the attack in the top of the fourth, plating three runs for a 15-6 lead on an RBI triple by Sackey and RBI singles by Cintron and Guido Schjang. Fire’s flame grew dimmer as they had no answer in their half of the inning.
The Fire was totally out by the time the Injectables got through in the top of the fifth inning. Another seven-run explosion in the top of the inning extended the Injectables lead to 16 runs at 22-6. They scores seven runs on a two-run single by Cintron, an RBI double by Milligan, RBI singles by Foster and Schjang and two unearned runs on Fire errors. Facing the ten-run mercy rule being enforced in the bottom of the inning, the firemen could only muster a lone run on a bases loaded walk drawn by Gelisa James and they went down in defeat 22-7.
Brow got the win for the Injectables while Troy Brown got the loss. Top batters for the winners were, Foster, 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs; Sackey, 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs; and Milligan and Cintron, both 4 for 5 with four RBIs. For Fire, Ronald Schjang was 2 for 3, Canaii was 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs, and Bates was 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.
b>Corrections 6, Public Works 5
In the night’s early game, Correction handcuffed Public Works 6-5. It was Corrections with six runs on eight hits while Public Works finished with five runs on nine hits and one error. The winning pitcher was Max Velasquez, while Angel Soto got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Juan Santana, 3 for 3 with three RBIs; Jose Robles, 2 for 2 with one RBI; and Carlos Morales, 2 for 3. For Public Works Mark Finch was 2 for 3 and Eliza Ramirez was 2 for 4.
