Private and Parochial Schools Asked to Contact Education

June 9, 2009 – The Virgin Islands Department of Education is asking the territory's private and parochial school administrations for their enrollment numbers for distribution of books for the 2009 Governor's Reading Challenge.
"Students in grades kindergarten to eighth grade are encouraged to "Take the Challenge! Read 5! " this summer," said Roderick Moorehead Ph.D., special assistant to the education commissioner and department coordinator for the program. "In an effort to ensure the correct number of books are available throughout the territory for all students, the department needs to confirm numbers with the various school administrations."
In the St. Thomas-St. John District, fax information to the DOE's Public Relations and Communications office at 774-1168; Attention: Juel Anderson. In the St. Croix District, fax information to the Office of the Governor at 713-9806; Attention: Angeli Ferschneider.
For more information, call Roderick Moorehead at 643-7950.
