Pistarckle Schedules Auditions for 'Little Shop of Horrors'

May 10, 2009 – Pistarckle Theatre will hold auditions for the "Little Shop of Horrors." Rehearsals for this fall's season opener will be from August through Oct. 7, and performances will run from Oct. 8-31.
"Little Shop of Horrors" is a hilarious send up of the 1950-style monster movies, where a man-eating plant from outer space threatens to devour the world. It is chock full of memorable, foot-tapping songs and musical numbers by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, who also gained fame for their songs for Walt Disney’s "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin." This production will be directed by Frank Bartolucci with musical direction by Marc Fellnererez.
The cast consists of :
Seymour: a sweet, well meaning, but insecure and down on his luck shop clerk (age range 20s, 30s)
Audrey: the girl from the gutter with a heart of gold with whom Seymour is in love (age range 20s, 30’s)
Orin: the sadistic, egotistical, hipster, bully dentist who is Audrey’s boyfriend (age range 20s, 30s, 40s)
Mr. Mushnick: the florist shop owner from the Lower East Side, where Seymour works (age range 40s through 60s)
The Voice of Audrey II: The man-eating plant from outer space whose voice is a cross between Otis Redding, Barry White and Wolf Man Jack; a street smart, conniving villain (no particular age range) and
Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon: three black, female street urchins that are hip, smart, streetwise and are as good as any girl group Motown ever produced (age range high school through 30s).
Auditions will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 30; and noon to 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 31, at Pistarckle Theatre in Tillet Gardens. A pianist will be provided; please bring sheet music for your audition piece. All performers will be asked to sing and perform a scene. Call Pistarckle at 775-7877 with questions.
