The New Vibes Wins the 2008/09 Soccer Association's Club Championship

Feb. 10, 2009 – The St. Thomas Region's champion the New Vibes edged the defending Club Championship champion the Positive Vibes 1-0 to claim their second Club Championship title at the Schjang Field on St. Croix. The New Vibes' Idris Brice scored the lone goal with 15 minutes left in the game. After a goalless first half, the New Vibes missed some early second chances, and they failed to take the lead. The game was evenly matched in terms of possession, but the New Vibes clearly had the better scoring opportunities.
In Saturday's semi-finals, the New Vibes trashed the Skills 6-1, with goals by Brian Charlery, 3, Alvin Joseph, 2, and Marlon Wilton, 1. The Skills' lone goal came off the boot of Davie Bannis. The Positive Vibes, on the other hand, edged the Hellenites 1-0 thanks to superb goalkeeping by goalkeeper Jermaine Riley. The Positive Vibes' Collister Fahie scored the game winner. Both the Positive Vibes and the New Vibes earned the right to represent the association/territory in regional club tournaments. The New Vibes' Junior Laurencin was named the tournament's MVP.
