I would like to urge all who receive this message to take a stand for the children on the Islands there.
I challenge you all to see to it that when the children return to school from winter break, '08, they enter schools that are safe and where discipline is administered with respect and dignity, of which "paddling" is not a fit.
There is no reason why any students should remain under conditions where he or she potentially may experience the torment that Roman endured. As long as beating children is sanctioned in your schools, children remain in danger of being hurt, damaged, and crippled in spirit with many symptoms lasting a lifetime, as we all know.
Roman and all Virgin Island children will heal and benefit greatly when they know that the adults in their care brought this barbaric practice to an end saying, "No more! No more of our children will suffer ever again at the hands of educators. Roman shall be the last!"
You may have to boycott the schools in order to have the proper authorities make them safe for all children, and they will when they see you band together as one. You will also shine a light to the 21 U S states where this horrid practice is still sanctioned when they see you take a stand for the children in your care, calling the parents in these states higher; calling them to question, "Are not our children just as valuable as the children in the Virgin Islands?" One day there will be a "Roman Holiday," a day to celebrate when the adults in the Virgin Islands came together to protect childhood and thus, setting the pace for the U S A. I look forward to reading in the newspapers about the powerful stand you took as one. It will be displayed on my website for the entire world to see that it only takes the adults in the lives of these oppressed children, coming together, to shut this practice down once and forever.
The children in the Virgin Islands deserve this care. So, too, do the children in the U S and the world at large. Let it begin, in the beautiful Virgin Islands.
