Turkey Ball Handicap, Wadada Open, Native Classic Highlight Thanksgiving Races

Nov. 28, 2008 — The horses will be off and running at the Randall “Doc” James racetrack on Sunday for the annual Thanksgiving Day races with nine highly competitive races on the card.
Once again, Carse will put his undefeated record in the Virgin Islands on the line against three hopefuls in the one mile Turkey Ball Handicap for a purse of $4,300. Carse, who will be carrying a top weight of 121, will be challenged by a newcomer to the Virgin Islands representing St. Thomas, Charlie Echo (115).
Charlie Echo will be the latest to join a long list of challengers who have been trying to end Carse’s win streak, now at seven in a row. The streaking Carse has been sitting just off the pace in his latest races before pouncing and destroying his opponents.
Eltish Emerald (117) on his debut ran second to Carse in his first race on St. Croix last race day. He will be trying for the upset in his second start on the big island. Rounding out the field will be the late running Gallego (116), who will be charging down the stretch trying to run down the front runners.
The biggest race on Sunday’s card, purse-wise, will be the five furlongs, $5,000 Wadada Open, which will feature six thoroughbreds all vying for the crown of best sprinter in the Territory.
Marfin Express (116), Idol Worship (119), Black Jack Bob (115), Dixie Find (117), and Miners Bids (119) will represent St. Croix against the lone entry from St. Thomas in Chelsey Gallop (119). Dixie Find, Miners Bids and Chelsey Gallop will all be making their Virgin Islands debut so the word is still out on them. Marfin Express and Idol Worship are known speedsters and Black Jack Bob has shown early speed in past races.
