St. Thomas Hyperbaric Chamber Hosts Divers' Alert Network Visit

Oct. 4, 2008 – The staff of the hyperbaric chamber at Schneider Regional Medical Center, who run the hyperbaric chamber at the hospital for diving accidents and other medical treatments, will host the vice president of Divers Alert Network at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday Oct. 8, at Iggie's in Bolongo Bay. All the dive shops of St. Thomas-St. John, and the general public, who are interested in the treatment of diving accidents and/or operations of DAN, are welcome. The staff of the hyperbaric chamber will also be there, including Dr. David Weisher, Jill Anderson, P.A. and Steve Prosterman of UVI Marine Science.
DAN is a not-for-profit 501(C)(3) organization that provides emergency medical advice and assistance for underwater diving injuries, and underwrites a wide range of research, education and training programs that promote safe diving. It is supported by more than 200,000 fellow divers with a further 60,000 international divers in DAN Europe, DAN Japan, DAN Southeast Asia Pacific and DAN Southern Africa.
The organization was started in 1980 in association with Duke University Medical Center, initiating the 24-Hour Diving Emergency Hotline for dive accidents and providing emergency assistance and evacuation. It was quickly followed by a 9 to 5 information service and an award-winning magazine. Alert Diver is devoted to the safety of scuba divers.
For further information, contact Steve Prosterman at 693-1399.
