Autumn Triathlon Season to Begin September 21

Sept. 7, 2008 – The fall triathlon season kicks off on St. Croix with the Toyota Wall 2 Wall and Try-A-Tri races on Sept. 21. The races will be held at 7 a.m., at the Sprat Net Café at Cane Bay on the North Shore Road. The Wall 2 Wall race will feature a ½-mile swim, 14-mile bike and a 3-mile run. There will be both age group and relay team competitions. The Try-A-Tri will be shorter and is intended for kids and adults being introduced to the sport. The distances will be a ¼-mile swim, 6-mile bike and 1.5-mile run.
Project St. Croix, the promoters of the event, has purchased an electronic-chip timing system, which will require all participants to pre-register for the event. Race applications can be filled out before the race at Stamina Sports, St. Croix's local bike and triathlon shop, located at 4A Orange Grove, at the old Bingo Building. They can be contacted at 719-6749. Stamina Sports will also host a Duathlon at Cramers Park in October.
The season culminates with the Caribbean Classic Triathlon, held at the Buccaneer Hotel on Nov. 16. The Olympic Distance race of a 1-mile swim, 25-mile bike and 6.2-mile run, will include top professional triathletes, as well as visiting amateur athletes from the U.S. and the Caribbean.
