Dear Source:
Virgin Islanders profess to know a lot. Sometimes they even profess to know the outcome of legal action long before the pen hits the paper. I read the letter regarding Acting Chief Benta's testimony in court. If Benta did something illegal wouldn't he be brought up on charges?
This is what I know. My grandmother lives in Mutual Homes Housing community. Gunshots were a nightly occurrence until Chief Benta began walking the neighborhood. Yes, he and his officers get out of their cars and walk up and down and talk to the people. They make arrests and shake up the bad guys. My grandmother told me since Chief Benta has been cracking down in the neighborhood, she can sit on her porch in peace. The children can play outside. He has mad a great difference in this neighborhood.
And he has not only done this in Mutual Homes, Grove Place Village is a much quieter place these days. I understand he has had the same effect on Estate Profit when he and other government agencies went in and cleared the areas where drug dealers has set up shop.
I support the work that Acting Chief Benta, Commissioner McCall and the VIPD is doing. I hope it continues so my grandmother can continue to sit on her porch. Until the courts charge Benta with something I will stick by him.
