Fatal William's Delight Shooting Second in Territory in Two Days

Aug. 18, 2008 — A 30-year-old man was shot and killed in his yard on St. Croix early Monday morning, the second person in the territory to be killed near his home in as many days.
The second homicide occurred Sunday on St. Thomas, when a 70-year-old taxi driver was killed in the parking lot at the Thomasville housing community where he lived.
In the St. Croix shooting, Shada Mustafa was found lying in his front yard with multiple gunshot wounds to the body, Police Spokeswoman Melody Rames said in a statement released Monday.
A citizen reported the shooting about 1:40 a.m. Monday, Rames said. Police arrived at the home in William's Delight to find Mustafa lying in the yard. He was rushed by ambulance to Juan F. Luis Hospital, but died there about three hours later at 4:30 a.m.
Mustafa's killing came a day after 70-year-old Manassa Caines was shot and killed in the parking lot on St. Thomas. Caines, a taxi driver, was apparently getting off work for the night when he was approached by someone in front of Building 8 in the Thomasville housing community. Witnesses heard Caines tell someone, "leave me alone — I don't have no money," before several gunshots were discharged, police said. Caines was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the shooting was reported at 9:23 p.m. Sunday.
