Salty Sailors, Softball Inc., Code 9 Take Softball Wins

Aug. 8, 2008 — There were three games in the HOVENSA Slow Pitch Softball league on Tuesday at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park, with Salty Sailors, Softball Inc. and Code 9 all claiming victories.
Salty Sailors 12, Master Batters 8
In game one the Salty Sailors knocked off Master Batters by a score of 12-8. It was Master Batters 12 runs on 14 hits with two errors, while the Master batters had eight runs on 15 hits with one error. The winning pitcher was Wade DeShacer and Gabriel Jagroup got the loss for Master Batters. Top hitters for the winners were Jason Helima and Jean Pico were both 3 for 3 with one RBI and Joe McGowan was 3 for 4 with one RBI. For Master Batters Joey Jones was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Reggie Aaron was 2 for 3 with one RBI.
Softball Inc. 16, Cartel 7
Game two was a match up of two of the leagues in the Cartel and Softball Inc. This one went to Softball Inc. by a score of 16-7. It was Softball Inc. 16 runs on 14 hits with three errors while the Cartel had seven runs on 12 hits with two errors. Cody St. Pierre pitched the win for Softball Inc. while Samuel Ramos got the loss for the Cartel. Top hitters for the winners were St. Pierre 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Antonio Cruz, 3 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and Tim Gillipsie was 3 for 3 with one RBI. For the Cartel, Eddie Dunkirk was 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBI and Ray DeFreitas was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs.
Code 9 15, STX Merchants 3
In the nightcap, Code 9 blew out the STX Merchants by a score of 15-3. Code 9 had 15 runs on 14 hits with two errors and STX Merchants scored three runs on six hits while committing three errors. Gladys Pagan was the winning pitcher while Tempo Chamdler got the loss for the STX Merchants. Angel Guzman paced Code 9 offensively, going 2 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs, Orlando Benitez was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Angel Cruz was 2 for 3 with one RBI. For the STX Merchants, Adam Harris was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and Luis Rosado was 1 for 2 with one RBI.
