Update: WAPA Will Be Rotating Feeders Friday

July 11, 2008 – Sections of various Water and Power Authority electrical feeders on St. Thomas have been experiencing intermittent outages Friday as the customer load requirements increased throughout the morning and technicians in the Randolph Harley Power Plant continued to work on correcting problems which occurred Thursday with several generating units. Gas turbine Unit #18 experienced a problem with its transformer early yesterday morning and is under repair. Technicians are still troubleshooting what is preventing Unit #23 from starting up. Hugo Hodge, WAPA’’s Executive Director, said Thursday that the unit needs a major overhaul and it becomes increasingly difficult to start the unit each time it goes down. Deferred maintenance is a consequence of WAPA’’s continuing inability to both properly maintain its equipment and meet its continually rising fuel costs, Hodge said.
WAPA’s rotation schedule for Friday afternoon is as follows (sections of Feeders 7A, 9B, 9C and 9D were restored to service by 1 p.m.)
