I am glad to see that WAPA is again moving forward with alternative energy plans. I note with interest that three of the six plans involve converting waste to energy. As a former member of the Citizen Advisory Board for the VI Waste Management Authority I strongly suggest that WAPA use the information collected by VIWMA to help with their decisions regarding waste to energy. The Government of the Virgin Islands has spent money once to research this part of the waste and energy issue and it doesn’t seem like WAPA has any extra cash to spend on repeating the same exercise. It is unlikely that we will have significantly less trash in the future and our distance from recycling centers makes returning any but the most valuable materials cost prohibitive.
Now if the PSC can avoid tying WAPA’s shoes together while Mr. Hodge pushes a boulder uphill we may have a future that includes electricity.
