Alternatives to Violence Project to Offer Workshop

The public is invited to an Alternatives To Violence Project Workshop, which will use a series of time-proven exercises to teach skills of non-violent conflict resolution. It will take place from 6-9 p.m., on Friday, May 2; from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Saturday, May 3; and from 1-5 p.m., on Sunday, May 4. All workshops will be held the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 149 Anna's Retreat, St. Thomas. Specifically, the focus is on:
Affirmation: the building of self-esteem and trust
Communication: improving listening skills and assertive methods of expression
Cooperation: attitudes that avoid competitive conflicts
Community: learning to build community within a diverse society
Creative Conflict Resolution: The Inner "transforming power" to resolve violence.
This approach is now used all over the world, in communities, schools and prisons, and it has proven useful in today's society, where violence seems to be increasingly prevalent.
Registration is $40 in advance, $50 at the door.
