DeJongh Nominates Sussman to UVI Trustees

Jan. 31, 2008 — Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. has nominated St. John resident S. Donald Sussman to a five-year term on the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands.
De Jongh said he was pleased that Sussman accepted the offer to serve on the UVI Board. “His professional experience and his dedication to service and philanthropy in the Virgin Islands make him the right candidate to fill the vacant position on the university’s Board of Trustees,” deJongh said.
Sussman is the founder and chairman of Trust Asset Management, a St. Thomas based financial firm. His company serves as an investment advisor to alternative investment funds in various sectors including hedge fund strategies, fund of funds and private equity-style investments in China.
Sussman founded Trust Asset Management in 2001. Before that, he founded the Paloma Funds, multi-strategy hedge funds that were the early pioneers in a number of alternative investment strategies. Sussman is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Institutional Investor’s Alternative Investment News.
Sussman is an honorary member of the St. John Rotary Club and the Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas. Earlier this month, he was honored for his support of the Family Resource Center. He has been a longtime supporter of UVI, the Julius Sprauve School, the Virgin Islands Public Library, Friends of the V.I. National Park, and other educational programs as well as organizations that support the preservation of the ecology of the Virgin Islands.
Sussman, a member of the St. John Yacht Club, is an avid sailor. He also serves as the president of the Chocolate Hole Homeowners Association.
Sussman’s nomination is subject to the advice and consent of the 27th Legislature.
