Just for Fun Ends Season on High Note by Mashing Mash Up

Nov. 18, 2007 — Defending champions Just for Fun ended their Quarren Schjang Softball League regular season on a high note Friday by pounding Mash Up, 24 -10 in five innings.
The game, the only one played at the D.C. Canegata ballpark after an early forfeit on Friday, looked like it would be a hard fought contest as the score was only 3-2, after three innings. But after both teams had explosive fourth innings, the champs continued to score over the next couple of innings when Mash Up could not.
Batting first, JFF came up with two runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI triple by Henry Naar and a sacrifice fly by Guido Schjang to take the early lead. Mash Up had no answer in the bottom of the inning.
Mash Up got on the board in the bottom of the second with one run after JFF failed to score in the top of the inning. They scored one run on an RBI single off the bat of Alford Rhymer.
After JFF again failed to score in the top of the third, Mash Up took the lead at 3-2, scoring two runs on RBI singles by Ephrian Rodriguez and Hector Maldonado.
JFF took the lead for good in the top of the fourth, exploding for 12 runs and to all but close the deal on the game. They scored 12 runs on a three-run triple by Kai Schjang, two-run singles by Edwin Sankitts and Osbert Potter, and a plethora of Mash Up errors to lead 14-3.
Mash Up tried to answer in the bottom of the inning as they erupted for seven runs, mostly on JFF miscues. Maldonado, Rodriguez, and Colin Jarvis did contribute RBI single in the inning for Mash Up who now trailed 14-10 at the end of four completed innings of play. They would fail to score the rest of the way.
Meanwhile the defending champs were having no such problems, as they continued their late offensive onslaught by batting around in the consecutive innings. They plated ten runs in the top of the fifth for an insurmountable 14 run lead at 24-10. An RBI single and a three-run triple by Eustace Davis, an RBI double by Kai Schjang, RBI singles by Sankitts, and Myron Johannes and some Mash Up miscues accounted for all of the JFF runs in the top of the fifth. After Mash Up could not answer in the bottom of the inning, the game was called via the ten-run mercy-rule.
SanKitts pitched the win for JFF, while Wayne Bell got the loss for Mash Up.
Top hitters for JFF were SanKitts, 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Mike Schjang 3 for 3, Potter, 3 for 5 with two RBIs, and Davis was 3 for 4 with four RBI. For Mash Up, Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Jarvis was, 2 for 3 with one RBI.
